It is with profound sadness to report that my very good friend and world leading, genetic scientist, Dr. Bryan Sykes, passed away on December 10th. I was informed of this personally by his wonderful wife, Ulla. My heart is broken for our loss. Bryan was a fun, good man, and I relished our friendship and working together.
May God bless, Ulla, and console her.
Rhettman Alexander, PhD(ABD)
Dear Rhettman,
It is with a very heavy heart that I write this to you but as one of Bryan’s and my friends I prefer it that you do not hear it from somebody else first.
My beloved Bryan passed away peacefully on 10 December in hospital in Edinburgh after a long illness. As you will know already, he was my long term partner, my best friend, my soulmate - and I now feel an almost unbearable loss...
Mercifully I was able to be with Bryan to almost within an hour before he passed - it gave me peace of mind. I would say that his soul was already in transition then although he had some more lucid moments where I think he was able to understand - so I just kept talking to him. We loved each other so much.
Sorry to be the bearer of such terrible news.
However, life goes on, and I wish you -as I am sure Bryan would have done too - Happy Holidays - or at least as happy as one can manage in this crazy and terrible year...do hope all well with you.
Love - from us both (!) -
ULLA
