Holes in the ground where trees have been pulled out

Post by Rebelistic » Mon Nov 11, 2019 9:23 pm

Last night we went out for a listening post. I set up 2 dropboxes and the camp recorder. On thing that we found that we've seen before was where a pine tree about 8" in diameter had been pulled out the ground leaving a perfect hole the size of the trunk and about a foot deep. Of course this had been a dead rotting tree that was no longer connected to a root ball of any sort, however the trunk and tree was no where to be found.

This is right next to a spot I have set up in numerous times throughout the years. There is a suspected marker there that has withstood time and even seems to be added to from time to time. My winter setups there are with the parabolics aimed toward the place we call pine ridge. We have caught some odd vocals from that are several times.

This hole was completely vertical in the side walls and for the most part had the bark still surrounding the inside of the hole. It was just as if something pulled it straight out of the hole and carried it off. Now by no means am I an expert in how pine trees rot, but I would suspect that if it was all natural part of it should of been there.

Has anyone else ever found this? If not it may be something to keep and eye out for. Just another one of those things that is tough to wrap your brain around in the woods.

It does make you scratch your head. If biggie needs a tree, he can push a green one over, so why would he pull a dead one out of the ground and carry it away. Maybe it had insects and he took it home to eat? wanted a hole for a deer to trip and break a leg? OR maybe he couldn't see the forest for the trees, so he removed one, LOL.

If these individuals are as smart as they purport, could he be sending YOU a message? Not a malicious one, but some sort of letting you know something bigger than you is near by. :tweed: I am asking; I do not have the answer. As I write this, I sort of think it is a long short... but...
How tall was this tree? How many pounds do you estimate?

Where we have found the other ones were in the middle of now where in the X's area. That is just a name we call the northwestern part of the research area. It could be some kind of message I guess? I'm sure the trunk part of the tree was at least 7 foot. It was taller than me, but with it being a pine I don't think it was over 150 lbs. A dry rotting pine is pretty light.

Some sort of a bug or larvae... Never thought about that. I'll have to look at other dead standing pines in the area and see what I can find.

Just a suggestion but you could check other pines in the area (dead or alive) for numerous small holes especially near the base that are about half the size of a BB. If so, I would suspect the Pine Beetle might be the culprit for dead or dying pines.

Anyway, as I stand before God, I did not make this up!

Not saying it was Sq/BF/DM/Yeti... but it was strange. And I am locking my doors tonight for sure!

And just I was turning away, I thought I heard snort -- which could have been deer or maybe cattle... but... I do not know.

I did not have the creepy feeling I normally get in these situations... so I really do not know what to make of it.

One detail I forgot to mention: the whoop had almost a human like talk after it on both occasions.

I walked back to the other side, and thought I heard a knock...

Cattle about 1/8th mile away disappeared... and strangely at that location: it sounded like something banged the metal fence. Not loud... but never ever heard it before tonight.

Two whoops... and some deer scattering (they may have been scattering because of me).

I may have just had an encounter!
