Data Source: TR97

Locality: BLUFF CREEK
Researcher: RAY WALLACE
Witness: ROGER PATTERSON AND BOB GIMLIN
Sighting Type: 1
Summary: FUEL DRUMS THROWN
Sighting Text:
CA HUMBOLDT 1967 TR97 At Bluff Creek there was a logging show, and 50 gallon drums were thrown into a canyon where the road crew was working. Ray Wallace, Frank thought, let Roger know there was Bigfoot activity there, and Roger with Bob Gimlin went down. Roger Merritt, a neighbor, was invited to Bluff Creek, Larry said, but his wife told him, “if you go...don’t bother to come back.” So, he, of course, stayed home with his grateful wife...but he never will make it to the history books. As they were riding up the game trail, on a bit higher ground from the creek bed which was full of logs and limbs, Bob’s horse started acting up first, Frank said that Roger had told him. Then Peanuts started acting up, the Bigfoot had spooked the horses, and Roger forced Peanuts head up against a bank and got the camera out...he forced the horse down (bent a stirrup in the process). Dismounting the laid-down horse, he stumbled, and started filming.

Sighting Text:
* Daniel Perez; 9/17/93; 10926 Milano Ave.; Norwalk; CA 90650-1638; phone 714-351-9034. Daniel did a follow up on the Marvin Goss report and "Richard" from Bluff Creek; mentioned in TR#49. The man's name is Richard E. Leaven. At the time in question; mid-August 1978; Richard was a hydrologist with the US Forest Service. The area is Bigfoot Creek; CA; on an old dirt forest road; non-driveable at the time. Richard spotted unusual droppings near a stump; while talking to a fellow employee about "road stability" in the area. The droppings were discovered around eleven in the morning; may have been deposited that morning. Dropping collected in plastic bag; and taken back to the supervisor's office. Several people had seen droppings. Richard has seen; many times; bear droppings; and did not think it was that. Droppings contained berry seeds and vegetable matter; no trace of meat in diet or crushed bones. A parasite check was not done. No photographs. Droppings were "half the size of a cow patty." Marvin Goss told me he remembered being told they were human in form; 6 inches high; and 8-10 inches in diameter. A comment was that the droppings were made by animal 600-700 pounds in weight. No tracks observed. End of report.,

CA, Speaking of bad smells (this is an old report); John and Breeze lived in the mountains on Rainbow Ridge; outside of Honeydew; CA; south of Eureka; and west of Hy. 101. They had been at a party; five of them; and after dark had to walk back to Meyer's Cabin near Rainbow Ridge. This was 14 years ago; John said; and the one mile walk was without flashlights; and the group walked hand in hand to avoid falling. All of a sudden they ran across a rank smell; "rank and sour;" he said; that petrified them; as they weren't familiar with the odor; and in the dark imagined all sorts of things,

Locality: Sighting,Hwy101 between Arcata and Eureka
Researcher: ARLENE ARP
Witness: TRUCKER
Sighting Type: 1
Summary: BF shakes truck;dark brown;over 6 ft,
Sighting Text:
* Arleene Arp tells of a trucker that stopped at a rest stop between Arcata and Eureka; CA; Hy. 101; and was asleep in his truck on October 3rd. The 18 wheeler shook from a sudden shock; and the driver; Larry; awoke thinking their was a quake and noting that it was 4 AM. He slipped on his pants and glasses; thinking he would check his rig. Glancing out his rear-view passenger side mirror; he saw a giant Kodiak size bear (only small blacks in that area) rock his trailer again; harder this time...a big jerk and bump; lit by his trailer rig running lights. As it was one of the longer trailers; 52 feet; and loaded with rug padding; he thought the creature must be extremely strong; and thought it would actually push the trailer over. It scared him to death; Arleene said; and he started the truck and turned on the headlights; with the intention of leaving; as it had started; "rocking like you wouldn't believe." The thing ran in front of the cab then; and he got a good look at the creature on two legs. It was dark brown; and very close. He thought it might be taller than his 6'1"; and looked for all the world like an enormous bear. Arleene; familiar with the area as she has a sister that lives in Fortuna; said that the heavily forested area was thick with deer. Arlene had been in the area in 1988 when Hy. 101 was closed due to a large herd of elk milling on and around the highway. Her husband Oscar; estimated that there were 200 elk in the herd.
