Sighting Type: 1
Summary: JOHN SYRRELL KILLED BY BF, TRACKS

Sighting Text:
Track Record 25, March 1993 Jackson Moore-Bigfoot Kills Humam At the time this story came about, I was 28 years old and working in Los Angeles, CA, on the Queen Mary. I had spent some spare hours in the library in Long Beach, where I came across several articles on Sasquatch, or Bigfoot, as most I've talked to, are wont to call him. It was while I was doing further research on this animal, that I met John Syrrell, who was from somewhere in New York State. He never would say just where, and I didn't ask. It was the second week in September, 1969, that there was a short report on the evening news about some hunters out of Happy Camp, CA, that thought they had seen a 1ive Bigfoot. So John and I chartered a plane and put some equipment together and went to Happy Camp. Upon our arrival, everyone was talking about the Bigfoot that these hunters had seen. We talked to quite a few people, and most were friendly enough, but didn't want their names in print. We got the location of the sighting and rented some horses to ride and others to pack our gear. John and I were armed with state of-the-art weapons. My favorite was a .458 Weatherby Magnum rifle and the bullets I had made up were 1200 grain slugs ahead of Nitro Express powder. John was carrying an Ithaca twin-bore ten-gauge, with three-inch solid brass magnum shotgun shells. We both had Ruger Blackhawk .44 magnum handguns with six rounds under the hammer and 34 rounds in cartridge belts. Along with sound gear, we toted a 16 mm movie camera with infrared film for night shots, and if the opportunity presented itself - we also brought a tranquilizer gun with a 60 yard range, using "Capture Gem" tranquilizer with doses calibrated to bring down a bison, provided by Yerkes Regional Primate Center. It took several days for us to pick up the tracks that were reported. This was in an area of the Marble Mountain Wilderness and the Siskiyou National Forest where we had gone 20 miles into the timber, past Rattlesnake Canyon. The deeper we went into this region the better and more numerous became the tracks, and we took stills and 16 mm film of quite a few of these, besides shots where we had come across several places where something had left long, 10-11 inch, brown-red hairs. We would put these in plastic bags and labeled with time of day and approximately where found. I found that John was able to move through the woods like a ghost, which is ideal when tracking an animal of this size. We were able to locate a group of four animals; two adults and two smaller in size - ages unknown. We took several minutes of film, before they became aware of us. We were up on the side of a goodly sized hill and they were in a clearing close to a stream that flowed through it. They were looking in and around some plants that grew there, species unknown to me. They would pause from time to time and scan the area, and when they finally heard the sound the camera was making, they moved as one, away from us. John and I were really excited about this, as this film would be so much better to study Bigfeet by, rather than Floyd (SIC:Roger)Patterson's short film. We went back to camp in very high spirits about all that we had achieved so far, but then we had a few days of hard rains, that washed all tracks away. We spent six miserable days in this weather, from dawn to dark, looking for tracks, but there were none. We had just about made up our minds to call it quits when the sun came out at last, so we decided that we would stay one more week. It was on the morning of the third day that we came upon not one, but two sets of fresh tracks - the ground was still damp enough to take a good impression of anything that moved over it. We followed the tracks for about one-and-a-half miles before we came to a split in the trail; each trail went along the lower side of a steep butte on a north-south axis. I chose the left trail and John went up the one on the right. Again I told him that if either one of us was to see this animal, that we would get on the walkie-talkie and wait until the other had arrived for back-up. At no time were we to try to take one of these animals on alone. John checked his weapon to make sure it was loaded, then we moved out. The animal I was tracking was very large, as I would place my size 12 boot next to one of his, and his were about 6-7" longer than mine and about 4" wider. I had gone along this trail about 275 yds., and was traveling parallel to John, about 500 yards away, when I heard the solid booms of the ten gauge going off. This was followed by two more, and then two more. At first I thought it was echoes, but after a short pause of 20-30 seconds, two more shots boomed out, I had already started back along the trail, so that I could come up and give John some cover. As I was nearing the split in the trail, two more shots were fired, and then two more, then silence. I tore off up John's trail as fast as I could move, looking for John to fall back down the trail so I could give him covering fire, but this never happened. I raced up over a small rise in the trail that sloped back down on the other side into a small clearing. At first all I could see, was blood everywhere, trees, brush and ground was covered in it. I froze at the top of the trail and started looking for John. It was several minutes before it dawned on me, that what I thought were clumps of grass, covered with blood, were the different parts of John's body. He had been torn in pieces; arms and legs torn off, by whatever he had been shooting at. As I looked closer, I could see his right leg embedded in a tree, and nearby the twisted remains of the shotgun - it had been twisted into a curlicue. I ripped the walkie-talkie loose and called for the chopper that we had chartered in Happy Camp to come and pick me up. While I was waiting for the chopper, I backed up against the nearest and biggest tree and stayed put until I could hear the chopper in the distance. When he got overhead, the pilot could see the blood from the air, and said he wouldn't set down, that he would drop a rope ladder down and for me to get on. When we arrived back at Happy Camp, the local County Sheriff's deputy had been waiting for us. We immediately returned to the site and flew over it for several minutes taking pictures, but no one wanted to get on the ground for a closer look. They held an inquest and declared that John was killed by a person or persons unknown. From that day until this, as far as I know, all of our equipment is still there. (Sounds like a story right from SAGA magazine, Ray.) **

Summary: DEAD BF ALONG ROAD, HAD FINGERNAILS

Sighting Text:
CA TR23 John Green reported (1978) that in June of 1971 the Salem, OR, "Capital Journal" carried a report from near Happy Camp, CA, where two young girls had found a dead Bigfoot along a forest road. The body was well rotted away, white ribs showing, face gone, but they did see on the hands...squared off dark finger nails. Mr. Green investigated, and believed the girls actually found a dead Bigfoot, based on a report from the "Ostman kidnapping," of those Bigfeet also having dark fingernails (only primates have nails).

CA SHASTA 1986 TR97 403820N 1223331W 1280 FT BFRO* Witness, T., was in June, 1986, off Hy 299 west, near Old Shasta, CA. Site is near Whiskytown Lake. About 1-2 AM, very dark with no moon. T. and friend Chris camping on Mt. Shasta Bally. Something was walking in camp and awoke witness in bed of truck. Smelled really wild smell, like dog/coyote fighting. It circled the truck on two legs at 40-60 feet for one and a half hours. Witnesses were really “freaked out.” Had large caliber handguns, but did not use. It kept moving closer, breaking branches and making grunting sounds. Was not a bear that witness was familiar with. Before first light, it moved off to the southwest. In the morning there were disturbed pine needles 30 feet from the truck and broken limbs about six feet high. Elevation 8000 ft.

Hey Yankeesearch, didn’t even know you were in chat, now you have the bug so bad you will have to keep going out to see another one. :)

Anyway, as I stand before God, I did not make this up!
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:55 am »
Not saying it was Sq/BF/DM/Yeti... but it was strange. And I am locking my doors tonight for sure!
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:54 am »
And just I was turning away, I thought I heard snort -- which could have been deer or maybe cattle... but... I do not know.
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:53 am »
I did not have the creepy feeling I normally get in these situations... so I really do not know what to make of it.
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:53 am »
One detail I forgot to mention: the whoop had almost a human like talk after it on both occasions.
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:52 am »
I walked back to the other side, and thought I heard a knock...
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:51 am »
Cattle about 1/8th mile away disappeared... and strangely at that location: it sounded like something banged the metal fence. Not loud... but never ever heard it before tonight.
@ yankeesearch « Tue 12:50 am »
Two whoops... and some deer scattering (they may have been scattering because of me).
