Summary: 8 FT BF STANDING UNDER TREE, ARM DRAPED OVER BRANCH
Sighting Text:
MI DELTA 1963 TR#78 Randy Wertz report. I spent the summer of 1963 in Escanaba, Michigan with my aunt and uncle. Every Friday night we would go for the weekend to their summer cabin in Dickenson County near the town of Hardwood. I recall it was about a half hours drive from Escanaba. On the Friday night in question (early July), my uncle and I were sitting on the front porch (about 7:00 PM) and my aunt was in the back yard hanging clothes on the line. She ran into the front yard and told us a bear was at the tree line behind the house. My uncle went to get his rifle and I went into the back yard to see the bear. I was a kid from New Jersey and we don't get very much wildlife wandering the streets of Perth Amboy. When I got around back, I stood frozen in the yard. Our visitor was no kind of "bear" I'd ever seen. He (she or it) was standing under a tree approximately 75' from the house. It was standing on two legs and had it's right arm draped over a branch and was looking under the branch at us (my aunt was behind me). It had to be at least 8' tall (we measured the height of the branch the next day) and was covered by short, dark hair. Because it was standing in the shadow, I couldn't tell if the hair was brown or black. The face, under the hands and bottoms of the feet were fairly light colored (like a light skinned Negro) and the face itself was quite human like. The eyes looked dark because of the shadows. We all stood there for at least a century looking at each other (probably no more than a few seconds) when my uncle came out onto the back porch with his rifle. At that point our friend casually turned and walked back up the deer path and into the woods. We never saw or heard from him again although we always felt he was near. My aunt's dog liked to go for walks in the woods with them and after that incident, wouldn't leave the property. The dog was not with us that night. My uncle's cabin was at the end of an old abandoned logging road several miles outside of town. The entire area is heavily forested with pine and fir trees and the ground is covered with pine needles. The terrain itself is rolling hills with a few high ridges and is rather easy to hike into. I never really thought about what I'd seen until the article appeared in the old "Argosy" magazine about the "Michigan Monster." That article was written in the mid or late 60's. There were sightings on the upper peninsula of Michigan of a hairy thing that raised some hell for a while and them sort of faded away. I firmly believe our friend was the Michigan Monster. I would also like to point out that my uncle was a respected business man in the community. He was never criticized (at least to his face) when he told the story of our encounter. The old-timers up there know something is out there and respect the word of people who have a sighting.

Sighting Text:
MI 1999 TR95 * Bob Daigle report.'bobdaigle@webtv.net Last Sept, while being taken by a friend to see some two week old foot prints in an area in a central Mich. Co. (which had several BF reports during the 90's), we came upon a fresher pair of left and right tracks. They were impressed in a small mound of hard packed coarse-grained, almost gravelly sand on a two-track road which has been gated off by the Mich. DNR to exclude any motorized vehicles. The sandy mound was only about 5 inches higher than the surrounding area, and about 5 x 10 feet. The tracks measured 17 x 7 x 5 inches, and were about 4 1/2 feet from heel to heel. There were pressure ridges on the edges of the tracks, indicating more than a simple digging or scooping process by a hoaxer. The second track showed a pressure ridge or uplifting of the soil just behind where the ball of the foot would have been. I seem to recall some technical discussion about this being likely to happen if the creature is making a strong push-off with that foot. Photos taken are nothing to get too excited about, since gravelly soil did not show distinct toes, and pictures were taken in less than ideal light conditions. Directly in line with the 2 footprints, and about 15 - 20 behind them were 2 two small broken branches, both less than 2 inch diameter, and snapped downward at a point 7 - 8 feet above ground. We set up a Camtrakker with bait nearby for two nights before I had to return home, but got no results.

Sighting Text:
MI COUNTY DATE TR97 * Monte Ballard report. monterb@netusa1.net They are a second and a third hand report and I don't have a lot of details. From a car rental guy driving me to get my car from a body shop. He told me he was from upper Michigan. I mentioned that I used to hunt up there but I stopped hunting. He said he and his father used to hunt there also and asked what I liked to do now. I told him I was interested in Bigfoot. He was very interested and said his best friend heard a noise outside his house one night. He thought 'coons were in his trash and went out to chase them off. It wasn't 'coons, it was a Bigfoot bent over looking in the cans. It heard him and straightened up; he said it had to be over eight feet tall. It looked at him and walked away rapidly. My driver said when his friend told him about it he kept repeating, "It was the biggest thing I have ever seen." By that time we were at the shop and it was near closing time so I had to get out. I don't think he had any more details anyway.

Sighting Text:
One interesting aspect is the overall hair-covered body, with hair six to eight inches long, and the lack of distinguishing facial features. This fits the description of the Momo Bigfoot of 1972 and the 1965 creature that attacked Christine Van Acker near Monroe, Michigan. Loren Coleman says that these creatures are often referred to as the "Eastern Bigfoot," a much different creature from the Pacific Northwest's Sasquatch.
