A family group of campers were at the 10,000 ft level elevation camping on East Lake in the Inyo National Forest in California. The lake is roughly 4 and a 1/2 miles in from a trailhead camp. The women were near the lake when they describe seeing "an 8 or 9 foot tall creature, moving upright in bipedal fashion, walking swiftly up on a ridge above the lake level. This occurred August 4, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. Early they heard rocks sliding down from the same area. They described the distance of the sighting of these creatures at approx., 300 yards and also realized how rugged the terrain was, especially to be moving as swiftly as they were. No visible prints were found due to the type of terrain.
